ISO9001 in Electronic Manufacturer
In 1996 our customer at that time (Thomson Consumer Electronic) asked us to setup ISO 9002 standard as a part of global requirement. Now on, we serve Audiovox. It was memorable experience because I was involved from the beginning. It was happened at the first or two months I joined this company. ISO was the 1st experience for all of us so, to catch up the goal, we were trained by outside consultant.
My department has 4 sub department (we call division) : DCC (Document Control System), TEA (Test Equipment Administration), Sample Build and TED (Test Equipment Division). We do not have R and D because our product is designed by customer. After training, I started to write procedures. It was not difficult job because I knew how should my division interact each other and with other departments.
The problem came when I have to write procedure for calibration. The problem not came from how should I calibrate equipment, but how to get reference documents. In training material, it was written that calibration document must have reference, even for simple thing. I asked every body that I thought have information about this issue, including my counterpart in Thomson Malaysia. There was no satisfy answer. It made me desperate because the assessment day was getting closer and closer. Finally I decided there was no reference document. I, professionally, could ensure that my procedure are correct and thanks God, in final assessment, this decision was accepted.
In simple manner, ISO mean “write what you do, do what you write” (more…)
